Production Manager, Traveling

Reports To: Senior Manufacturing Manager

Works With: All Production personnel, Master Planning, Food Safety and Quality Assurance, Information Technology, Receiving and Shipping supervisors and management, Testing Labs, Sales, Human Resources

Direct Reports: Production supervisors, leads, and seasonal production staff

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage production supervisors and staff to ensure fulfillment of the production schedule.
  • Provide and track key indicators of plant performance, including but not limited to: efficiency, yield, waste, down time, and labor cost.
  • Monitor and evaluate all Production Department operations, programs, processes, and/or practices for quality and effectiveness; make recommendations for improvement.
  • Maintain full-shift responsibility for staff (over 250 employees), including determining work load, delegating assignments, training, monitoring, evaluating performance, and coaching. Additional tasks include:
    • Ensure a cohesive, efficient, hostile-free work environment
    • Lead daily Operations staff meeting
    • Lead weekly tailgate meetings with employees
    • Lead bi-weekly meetings with supervisors
    • Lead bi-weekly meetings with operators
  • Ensure that employees adhere to company policies, including but not limited to safety and GMP requirements, at all times.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • 4+ years’ experience in a manager role in a large-scale food manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in food processing, agricultural science, or other related discipline preferred; APICS certification a plus
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMP, and USDA/FDA guidelines
  • Bilingual/bi-literate in English and Spanish
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, WMS, and MRP
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills; able to handle difficult situations with tact and professionalism
  • Self-directed with a sense of urgency; able to handle multiple projects
  • Excellent interpersonal negotiation and communication skills, with a demonstrated commitment to excellence and ability to lead through teamwork and team building
  • Must be flexible with schedule and have the ability to work PM, weekends, and overtime as required
  • Able to relocate to Yuma, AZ during the winter growing season (approximately November thru April) each year

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions include a cold and wet environment (34-36 degrees F), the smell of chlorine, outdoor weather conditions, heavy machinery, forklift traffic, and loud noises.
