Jon K. The Secret of Muffins

Blueberry muffins

Jon and Alex.“I like to make muffins on Sunday mornings, and usually my 4-year-old son, Alex, helps me. He’s an aspiring chef and pretty good at cracking eggs. He also received a play kitchen as a gift, and he greatly enjoys dressing up in apron and chef hat. I heard this story from Alex’s daycare provider.

“Alex’s friend Chris brought blueberry muffins to share with the group for his birthday. He asked Alex if he’d ever had them before.

“Alex said, ‘Oh, yes — at my house my Daddy makes them the best!’

“Astonished, Chris said, ‘How does your dad know how to make them? They come from Safeway!’

“Alex went on to explain to Chris how Dad makes them in d-e-t-a-i-l (proving, of course, that they’re always watching). Chris was amazed. Then he said thoughtfully, ‘WOW, did your Dad sneak into Safeway to find out how?’

“Alex paused for a moment, then replied matter-of-factly: ‘No, Safeway sneaked in to learn from my Dad.’

“The time we spend with our kids is so important; the little things we do may have the biggest impact.”
