![]() “When my kids were growing up, I was lucky enough to rent space in a garden. I had quite a bit of room, so each of my 4 kids got their own row. They could grow anything they wanted, but they had to tend their own crops. My oldest daughter E grew peanuts and tried her hand at sponges. She had fun. N was more practical (and she still is) and grew the usual carrots, tomatoes, peppers, and onions. J grew sunflowers and squashes; he’d ask if he could sleep by the garden when his sunflowers were big so he could watch them close at night and wake in the morning. JJ grew mums, pumpkins, and beans. They all learned how to grow, care for, and harvest their bounty — and I believe that helped them become the caring people they are today.” |
