Ask Farmer Mark Got a question about organic farming? Ask someone with more than 26 years of organic farming experience! Earthbound Farm’s Mark Marino is always happy to share his farming knowledge and his love of the land.
At Earthbound Farm’s beautiful 30-acre research and development farm in Carmel Valley, California, Mark Marino explores state-of-the-art organic farming techniques and develops new varieties of salad greens and vegetables to add to the company’s extensive line of wholesale organic produce. He leads tours of the farm and speaks to groups of both adults and children about organic agriculture. Mark helped create our signature “Harvest Walks” and “Chef Walks” as fun ways to help the public learn about raising, harvesting, and cooking fresh organic produce. Mark’s expertise has grown from hands firmly planted in the soil. After studying Alan Chadwick’s French Intensive Biodynamic gardening method at Red Horizons Farm in Santa Barbara, California, he began developing and refining techniques of growing specialty organic produce, flowers, herbs, and experimental crops. At his Pogonip Farm in Santa Cruz, California, Mark grew specialty organic vegetables for such renowned chefs as Alice Waters and Jeremiah Tower. He ran his own 200-acre organic specialty produce farm in Missouri before joining Earthbound Farm in 1997. Mark’s love of organic farming complements his appreciation of fine cuisine, and he particularly enjoys working with creative chefs. He likes to think of his produce as “art supplies for the artists who create fabulous culinary masterpieces.” Please note that Farmer Mark responds to farming-related questions only.
