Food Safety at Home

At Earthbound Farm, we’re committed to providing fresh, delicious, safe products. But it’s important that you handle them properly to preserve that quality and safety.

To enjoy your salads, fruits, and vegetables at their best, remember these simple rules:

  • Keep them cold! Fresh-cut salads, fruits, and vegetables are perishable. They should be refrigerated in the store and again when you get home.
  • Consume all packaged salads by the “use by” date on the package. But no matter what the label says, don’t eat it if it looks or smells bad. When in doubt, throw it out!
  • Avoid fruits or vegetables with bruises, damage, or open packages.
  • Wash all fresh, whole produce thoroughly before using (even if you plan to peel it).
  • Separate fresh fruits and vegetables from raw meat, poultry, and seafood.
  • Wash your hands before, during, and after meal preparation, especially after handling raw meat or produce.
  • Clean all surfaces and utensils with hot, soapy water before and after use.
