August 2008 The Nan Pipestream Wildlife Preservation Center (nominated by Stacey Smith) treats and rehabilitates sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife for return to the wild. It’s the only wildlife rehab center in the county, and it works not only with animals native to San Benito County but also those migrating through the area.
July 2008 Little Feet (nominated by Tonya Antle) sends soccer balls to underprivileged children in over 30 countries around the world. “A soccer ball won’t stop a war, and it won’t fill a belly, but it might help heal a soul and let children be children — at least for a little while.”
June 2008 Family House (nominated by Beatriz Plazola) provides temporary housing for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at UC San Francisco's Children's Hospital. This home-away-from-home provides much-needed emotional support and physical comfort for more than 2,000 families each year.
May 2008 Rio Del Mar Elementary School (nominated by Chris Glynn) is facing unprecedented budget cuts. Our donation will help support many of the programs and activities that are so necessary for students to have an exciting, enriching learning experience. Chris is an active member of the Parent Alliance, a classroom volunteer, and supervisor of the salad bar.
April 2008 Sustainable Agriculture Education (nominated by Mark Marino) links the sustainable agriculture movement to smart growth and regional planning. Their mission is to show how important urban edge agriculture is to the health of our communities.
March 2008 Sustainable Harvest International (nominated by Hillary Fish) helps Central American farmers to reverse rainforest destruction with sustainable land-use practices that allow them to take control of their environmental and economic destinies. Over the last 10 years, the organization’s activities have included planting over 2,000,000 trees and establishing more than 200 organic vegetable gardens.
February 2008 ARC of Yuma County, Arizona, (nominated by Hesiquio Garcia) advocates on behalf of children and adults with developmental disabilities. The organization works to increase awareness of their needs and ways they can contribute to their communities.
January 2008 The Hollister Elks Lodge (nominated by Angela Moore) provides college scholarships to San Benito County high school students. Our donation will also provide every third grade student in San Benito County with a dictionary this year.
December 2007 The Community Pantry (nominated by David Vargas, Sr.) feeds approximately 850 San Benito families every week. As the cost of living rises, so too does the need that the Community Pantry tries to meet. The Homeless Task Force of San Benito County (nominated by Julie Morris) is the county’s only shelter, serving a growing population of people who work but cannot afford a place to live. Our donation will help them provide a safe, warm place to sleep, meals, and counseling services for about 130 people.
November 2007 Emmaus House (nominated by Ana Jimenez) shelters battered women and children, and helps them make a new start. Our donation will help pay for new security cameras, blankets, books and toys for the children, and needed medical supplies.
October 2007 The Unity Care Group, Inc. (nominated by Mike Stevens) is a San Jose-based nonprofit youth development agency that develops educational and social programs designed to enrich the lives of at-risk youth.
September 2007 The Aditi Foundation, Inc. (nominated by Irene Kerbey) is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and presenting authentic dance in Monterey County. Its main focus is awarding student scholarships and producing ethnic and cultural dance programs from around the world in venues throughout the area. |
