10 Brain-Booster Foods for Kids (& Adults!)
We all need to eat well to keep up with our busy routines — but it’s especially important for our kids, whose growing bodies and developing brains need good nutrition to grow and thrive.
Earthbound fan and friend Frances Largeman-Roth knows that well; she’s a registered dietician, nutrition expert and author, and a mom herself. Her list of 10 brain-boosting foods for kids on TheDailyMeal.com shows the foods our kids should be eating (and they sure wouldn’t hurt us adults, either). Foods like:
- Apples’ nutrients can help protect our brains and boost our immune systems. Be sure to choose organic apples — they’re #1 on the EWG’s list of produce that carries the most pesticide residues when grown conventionally.
- Blueberries contain antioxidants that support cognitive function and improve memory for all ages. Choose organic for your berries, too — they’re #13 on the EWG’s list.
- Kale is high in folic acid, which is critical for brain function, especially during pregnancy, infancy and adolescence. Fresh kale takes some prep, but versatile and delicious baby kale works hot or cold with no prep needed.
